‘Flux’ will inhabit the main entrance of the hotel, probing movement and exchange as impetus for aesthetic effect. When entering and exiting the Gladstone, visitors to the space will pass through an arbour of synthetic verdure activated with light and sound in response to the bodies moving through it. The installation utilizes video processing to extract information on motion and the proximity of those standing in the space to one another, creating a distilled and distorted reflection of activity within the space through aural and visual feedback ranging from icy and sterile to a soft, warm glow. The project team has backgrounds in industrial design, architecture, theatrical lighting, sound production and blacksmithing.
