Gareth Bate'’s Jewel Net of Indra is a cosmology representing the interconnectedness and interdependency of all things. It is based on a Buddhist metaphor of an infinite net of jewels each representing an individual. Every jewel reflects all others. The installation incorporates hundreds of manufactured acrylic mirrored discs, each with a hand painted portrait of a historical figure. It is a meditation on History and our relationships to the individuals who form it.
Gareth’s principle themes are our relationships with nature and our place in the universe. He was the winner of OCAD’s prestigious 401 Richmond Career-Launcher Prize, a free studio for a year. He is Festival Curator for the 2012 World of Threads Festival.
