Lamers Bramm Design (LBD) | Ground Floor Cafe + Queen Street

This project explores the ability that lasting urban institutions have to affect change upon their surrounding urban contexts. As a purveyor of cultural experiences through events such as CUTMR, the 125 year-old Gladstone Hotel is now an active participant in the rejuvenation of its neighbourhood into a world renowned district for art, design, and urban culture in general. This transformative aspect of art is evoked in this project through a series of art objects, modelled after the hotel’s iconic signage, which radiate outwards from the interior private space of the hotel’s cafe to the public space of the street beyond.

LBD (Matthew Lamers Andrew Bramm) are professional architects with a strong interest in urbanism and public space who have frequently collaborated on designs that explore the relationship between the built environment and the people who inhabit it.
