Cyb3r is an experimental, multimedia, immersive experience of the queer erotic. Informed strongly by the artist’s upbringing in the 90s, Cyb3r utilizes the technological landscape of 2019 (XR, IoT devices, 3d printing) to craft an experience of queer sexual play. Employing humour as its primary modus operandi, Cyb3r oscillates between the absurd and the realistic, the obscene and the benign, the physical and the digital. It also involves hacking the Tesla of sex toys.
Maxwell Lander is a photographer, VR developer, and a feminist pornographer. In 2016 he published a book of photography exploring queerness and sci-fi aesthetics, before taking a brief hiatus to delve into game design, interactive media and immersive technology. In May 2019, he completed his MDes in the Digital Futures program at OCADU, where he explored VR technology as a physically disruptive medium for queer and kink play. Cyb3r is the first exhibition pulling together both his photographic and VR work.
This project is supported by OCAD University’s Centre for Emerging Artists and Designers through the Career Launchers program providing artistic and professional opportunities to creative graduates from OCAD University.
