"A Common Thread"
The rich history of the Gladstone Hotel and the trajectory of interior design are traced through the metaphor of the carpet. Starting with its Victorian roots, the carpet is elegant, ornate and finely crafted. With the railway hotel’s decline along with machine manufacturing, the threads of yarn degenerate and envelop the room. And yet, their energy and freedom, literally bursts from the confines of the hotel itself, signifying the contemporary art epicentre that the Gladstone has become, its impact on the neighbourhood and the delight and boundlessness and creativity of contemporary interior design.
