Water Bed by Ilze Godlevskis | 3rd floor North Corridor

Water Bed is a soft sculpture representing of a series of dreams about water, experienced by, the artist, Ilze Godlevskis. Curved, bent sculptured cushions emulate flowing and bubbling water, resting and intertwining on a bed frame. Soft forms and volumes of the hand-made cushions combine together in a fluid mass, making material, a dream world of water. Twisted cushions interpret the movement of water evoke the sensation of sleeping in a fantasy world of dreams. The transparent Bed acts as an aquarium container for both the water and dreams. Colours and textures reflect the water forms of seas, canals, streams, rivers and pools experienced in the dream state. Water experienced in dreams symbolises inner emotional state of mind, transmitting the unconscious message through a visual and sensorial dream consciousness. Water Bed was supported and sponsored by CNC Cutting Inc. Fabricating the plexiglass bed with industry professionalism and efficiency of CNC Cutting Inc. made the artistic/industrial collaboration a dream of its own. —————————————————— Ilze Godlevskis is a contemporary craftsperson who combines cultural experience, skill and appreciation for beauty.
